BRIGHT SIGHT:

EYE STUDY

Nystagmus causes rapid, uncontrollable eye movements – up and down, side to side, or in a circular motion – causing a person to have problems with vision, depth perception, balance and coordination.

Standard eye testing methods are static and don’t reflect the dynamic movements in day-to-day life. This makes it difficult to identify the severity of nystagmus in young patients and to measure their improvement.

Our team of eye specialists and game developers has built three game prototypes that hope to better measure how quickly and clearly someone can see, tracking progress more accurately.

GAMES FOR NYSTAGMUS

Burger Assembly

Burger Assembly tests whether the player can identify the correct burger ingredients and serve the correct order to the customer. By tracking both the time it takes to complete the order and any mistakes, we can narrow down differences between performance of nystagmus patients against the control group.

MILKSHAKE Match

Milkshake Match is the original game prototype that started the whole project. Players are presented with a variety of delicious drinks and are asked to serve the correct drink to the customer. The game tests whether changing the positions of the drinks has a disproportionate impact on the performance of nystagmus patients.

TIDY UP TOGETHER

Tidy Up Together invites players to a peaceful, but messy scene, where they are asked to clean up items that are scarred across a home. By tracking the time it takes players to complete the task, we are noting down differences between nystagmus patients and the control groups.

MORE ON THE WAY

With our three initial prototypes, we’ve already been able to establish valuable differences and insights between nystagmus patients and the general population. We hope to use this data to further develop the project and assist in valuable nystagmus research for more dynamic diagnostic tools.
